Working on Harrowing Adventures which sounds REALLY exciting. Glockenspiel and handclaps and reverb a plenty, I’m very very excited about this. Tomorrows the last day for a few weeks and then we’re back to mix.

In other news, Radiohead have just set out the business model for the new record industry. This is how all records should come out.

We’re still working. We’ve got the basic tracks for every song down now, and various bits and pieces for everything. Some things are nearly finished and other things need lots of work. Starting to get sick of the same old instruments on every song. Organ, bass, drums, guitar, etc etc so on and so forth ad infinitum. Someone needs to invent something cool that doesn’t sound like anything else. Suggestions?

We’re back, baby. This is more or less what we’ve done so far.

Yesterday we worked on Centennial (very sad), New Song (glockenspiel!), Tesselate (drums!), and Famous (more drums!) and tried and failed once again to come up with something for something that has no proper name right now.

As I type this we’re working on Tesselate, it has drums and bass and piano right now. I don’t know where its going, but thats half the fun.

I know I planned on putting up pictures, but I don’t feel like resizing them all now, so I’m not going to. Don’t worry, you’re not missing out on much, just the usual studio pictures of people wearing headphones and playing instruments.

Today was a weird day, mostly spent editing drums or something, I don’t know. I spent most of the day playing an organ in the basement and watching TV. At the end of the day we spent a while working on a new song, and its sounding good. We’re going home for the weekend, so no more blogs until Monday.

I know, I can’t wait either.

Look Out, its Studio Diary Time!

I woke up late today due to too much late night CSI watching, a mistake that I’m repeating as I write this. By the time I got upstairs, Greg and Dave were already tracking the bass and drums for Centennial. I was still annoyed at how things went yesterday, so I sat on the couch reading magazines while they did the take. Luckily I wasn’t needed for recording, so no one noticed any difference from my usual time killing activities.

The drums needed some editing, and while that took place Greg, Josh, and I set up some gear in the small rehearsal room downstairs. We let off some steam jamming for a while, and immediatley felt better about things. Theres something about leaving behind the pressure of what you’re supposed to be doing and doing something else that really improves the mood. In fact, thats how Tokyo Police Club got started in the first place, as an outlet for Josh, Greg, and Dave to play for fun while we started to hit walls with our old band.

Good humour restored, we spent the rest of the day working on Nursery, Academy. It sounds great and seems to me like a probable single. But then again, what do I know. Theres still too many tracks on it, but that just makes it fun to edit. And then we made caramel apples and went to bed.

I’m trying to figure out how to add pictures to these things, so maybe tomorrow…
