Its another Studio Diary!
Written 14 September 2007 by Graham Wright
Another day, another dollar. Or something. We started the day by finishing up Sixties, which mostly consisted of recording a new guitar track that Josh just came up with. It kind of sounds like a choir, somehow. We’re all big fans of instruments that don’t sound like they’re supposed to. Nothing makes me happier as a music fan then when I’m watching a band and saying “what the hell is making that sound?”. And we try to incite the same reaction in people…
Then we moved on to Elephant Shell, which Peter says he can tell will be one of the best songs on the album. Of course, its only the second song we’ve recorded and it isn’t even finished yet, but I hope hes right. Recording moved faster today, and we got all the drums, base, and keyboards done. I even recorded some nifty toy piano, sitting on the floor and looking like Schroeder from Peanuts.
Tomorrow is a short day, as we’re all going into New York to watch Interpol at Madison Square Garden (I wonder if they’ll have as many fans as Justin Timberlake did on his HBO special…), but hopefully we can finish up Elephant Shell and maybe get started in something new before we break for the weekend.
How great are The Hold Steady?

If you guys come play in Peterborough, ON, I will be the bands best friend 4 evah. If you don’t, I will pee my pant’s in sadness and spin out of control into a deep depression where I will pee my pant’s for a second time.
