shoes of risk 1 May 2010
hey CHUMs,
thought i would check in with you’s since there has been a bunch of stuff going down. but firstly, good hustle on wednesday night. i haven’t LARPed like that in a while.
“boots of danger” is now up on our myspace, and presumably it’s also streaming on a bunch of websites.
scroll down for more info on the song: i wrote a blurb about it for some press stuff and it appears courtesy of Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V.
One time with a friend we we’re laughing at putting song lyrics into an internet translator. You put them from English to Japanese and then back again and all the second-hand syntax yields hilarity. The words “Boots of Danger” came from this then we put the lyrics of Nature of the Experiment in and that phrase popped up in there. So really the title came first and then the song came in pieces later. The chorus bit came in summer ’08 in my parents
basement (where many choruses have come from). Six months later I came
up with the verse for it so I decided to try and demo it in NYC to see
if I couldn’t make something of it. That’s when the “Ooo’s” came, so
it’s always had sort of a disjointed feeling to me but I think we did
a good job of making it flow when we finally got it recorded. It also features samples from a talking Pregnant Redneck Barbie Doll at the end under the bass and Greg’s half-time beat. “Pour me a double..I’m drinkin’ fer two…..”. It’s in there.
there you have it.

MAGE: LEVEL 12, FIRE POWER
en route: Coachella Fusic Mestival 16 April 2010
Since we last spoke we’ve done a bunch of stuff. Things, good times and whatever, it’s been a cosmic blur leading up to one thing: a hot tub with lights that change colours. Which is directly related to our playing of Coachella. We’re working on some more vlogs for you, but i thought i would enlighten you with our “Drive to Coachella Mix CD Playlist”. Weird how just as every car started having a CD player, they became totally shitty to have when a cassette player can be an iPod jack. So it went down on some CD-Rs and became severely extended as traffic worsened. So it is below.
Also, follow us on Twitter and we’ll keep you a-bosom of the situation at Coachella.

mixing: done 21 March 2010
dear Serenity Fullstop,
i’m back in toronto now and that can only mean one thing: we’re finished! “CHAMP: SodaPop for the Toothless Moaner” is done being mixed. and aside from some panning here and some reverb there – which i’m sure no-one would ever notice, it came out better than we could have expected. we’re really really pleased. and if you’re curious as to how my opinion will hold up in the harsh light of rock criticism, don’t worry because my parents already gave it 10 out of 10. an A+.
anyways, sorry for falling of the map with the mixing blogs. as we got into the more complex songs it made no blogical sense to keep writing because days were getting too packed. also after my friends left for SXSW and i was forced to endure “a unique experience” at the los feliz hotel, i entered an LA delirium which started with a a song called “Not Sick” and ended with an avocado splattered on a wall. IT WAS VERY RIPE.
i can give you a few more clues about the record but really it will be out the digital shelves and real shelves/bargain bins of the world very soon. in a few of months, you can have it. but here are some hints anyways. it has eleven songs, a disney character, fuzzy bits, canadian spelling, hockey sound effects, me singing the lowest note in my range, one (1) saxophone note. and if all this makes you think that we’re rereleasing a tribute to the score of Disney’s The Mighty Ducks, then you may not be entirely off the mark.
to sum up:
keep checking in here and on our twitter and we’ll give you updates on how “Champ: Did Somebody Say Glory?!” is.
best,
dave
