We're Back, Studio Style!
Written 19 November 2007 by Graham Wright
Well, how have you been? We’ve been busy. We finished with our tour, and went right into intensive rehearsal for the record. We basically decided that the new songs we’d been working on didn’t rock as hard as we wanted, and we were working on making them work as proper live band songs, with just the four of us and no studio trickery involved. This was the fourth (I think) time that we’d set about writing songs properly, with the previous three times ending in frustrating defeat. This time, I’m pleased to report that we succeeded beyond our wildest hopes. Everything just came together with ease, and after a quick jaunt to Brazil, just to remind ourselves that we have the most stupidly crazy job ever, we wrapped things up, packed things up, and got ready to return to the studio.
For this leg of recording, we’ve gone back to our roots. We’re back in chilly Toronto, with our old friend Jon Drew and a team of other enthusiastic studio dudes with a penchant for talking about gear in terms that go far, far over my head. The excitement is palpable in the air, and we’re all convinced that we’re going to make something really really cool for you guys to listen to. I don’t want to jinx it, but I think its safe to say that it will be worth the admittedly long wait that we’ve put you through… The only downside is that the studio is close to a lot of really great restaurants, so I’m probably going to gain some serious weight. But what better to keep me warm as the Canadian winter descends on us once more?
Spirits are high in the Tokyo camp, and hopefully in your camp, too.
xoxo
